Is It Ok To Have A 2 Page Resume

Resume Tips for Designers – HOW TO STAND OUT

Two-page resumes are the new norm, says Vicki Salemi, career expert at Monster. If your resume encompasses two pages, dont overthink it focus on the content on those two pages to make your skills and experiences shine. And remember that while it can help to have a longer resume, it isnt mandatory.

Why Is The Deans List So Important

Deans list is very important because it is one of the things that can be considered as a sign of accomplishment, which is only demonstrated by hard work and a constant sense of commitment.

Those are the characteristics that are cherished by every employer, no matter what job you applied for.

That is why a lot of people suggest to include deans list on your resume, especially if the requirements to get onto it are very high, which gives it even more meaning and makes it more important, because it would show that you are a very persistent person who tends to set a clear goal and make sure it is fulfilled.

However, when it comes to the decision of whether you should add it or not, you need to consider several factors because sometimes it is not a good idea to overcrowd your resume with a lot of information.

Recruiters do like longer resumes, yes, but only when the stuff that is written there is meaningful and useful for the position you had applied for.

For instance, depending on how long you have been on the Deans list, it might be best not to include it on your resume.

If you had only been on the list for a single semester and the requirements for getting on the list are not so harsh, it would probably be better not to add it on your resume.

Why is that, you may ask? An accomplishment is an accomplishment, no matter how long it lasted.

You should only include the most important things and the things that could be relevant for your current position.

Don’t Add Dean’s List If You Have A Long Successful Career

If you have a long, successful career then you should skip adding Dean’s List or your GPA to your resume.

That’s because your professional experience is more important than those little college accomplishments.

Sure, if you just graduated and are looking for your first or second job, it makes sense to add Dean’s List but otherwise skip it. The exception is if you went to a hard college.

Everything You Need on Your Resume as a College Student ...

Now, we had mentioned that, depending on the criteria for making onto the deans list, it can be a good thing to include it in your resume.

However, there is another side of that, in cases where the requirements regarding the deans list are not so hard to achieve.

In that case, it might not be a good idea to include the deans list on your resume, simply because it would show the potential employers that, even though the requirements were very vague, you decided to add it on your resume.

That could be interpreted as the statement that you didnt have anything better to include, which would mean that you, as a person, might not be a suitable candidate for the job in question.

Why The Deans List Matters

When you make the deanâs list, itâs a clear sign that you know how to succeed. Those academic and professional achievements demonstrate hard work and a consistent commitment to success. Those are qualities that every employer and hiring manager appreciates.

As a result, many experts recommend that you include the deanâs list on your resume. However, you should always consider the specifics of that accomplishment. In some instances, you may want to avoid its inclusion.

For example, if you only made the deanâs list for one semester, should you bother to mention it? Do you include making the dean’s list every semester?

Most experts would agree that such inclusion might do more harm than good. If a potential employer saw that you only had one semester of outstanding accomplishment during your college years, he or she might wonder what you were doing with the rest of your time at the university. In this case, it’s better not to bring your qualifications into question by including this detail.

On the other hand, making the deanâs list consistently would certainly be an accomplishment worth noting on your resume. Of course, you donât have to have a perfect record throughout your college years, but making the deanâs list multiple times during your college career is noteworthy.

Does Listing A Deans List Award On Resume Help

How To Write A Resume With Little or No Work Experience – Resume Template

Listing a Deans List award on your resume will definitely help, to a degree. It will show a level of competence and understanding, particularly within an academic system or setting. However, simply having a Deans List award on your resume will not guarantee an interview or job placement.

A Deans List award will show an employer and an interviewer that you are a capable student, but it is up to you to show them that you have additional skills. In this competitive business marketplace, simply having high grades and a high-grade point average will not suffice to find a job.

That is why we extol the benefits of interning. Interning will allow you to get your foot in the door. It is an opportunity to learn first-hand the inner working and machinations of your particular industry. In addition, it will help you to build out your list of connections and network, which will be more valuable for you when youre in the middle of your career.

A Deans List award, though, will help immensely when applying to internships. This award will show your employers your academic aptitude, which is typically a requirement of most internships. It is also a great way to get noticed and to differentiate yourself from the other candidates.

Listing A Deans List Achievement Under The Education Section

Typically, the applicants education goes after the work experience on a resume or it can put before to highlight it instead of a career.

In cases where the job seeker has minimal work experience or is applying to a graduate school, the Education section would be better placed before the Work Experience section.

The Deans List can be put under the Education section right next to the GPA. This shows the hiring official two strong achievements during an applicants student life.

It is most important on a college or university graduates resume as those job seekers usually have to emphasize their education, and this makes them appear as strong candidates.

Bullet points can be used to list this achievement directly under the degree, below the college or universitys name.

It is also highly recommended to note how many semesters the student was on the Deans List. If it was for just one semester then only the date should be written.

Resum Mistakes That Can Cost You A Job

As a self-employed writer and entrepreneur, I dont normally have much to do with resumés. I do maintain one of my own, but its more of an academic CV that gets used only for academic applications. Otherwise, Ive never really applied for a job or had a use for my own job-applying materials.

I dont do much hiring either, but every once in a while I get the chance to sort through applications for non-profit jobs. I got that chance last week, and I learned a lot through the experience.

More than anything else, I learned a few things not to do if I ever apply for a job. And if youre in that position, pay attention to this essay I cant guarantee that everyone will process resumés the way I do, but Id expect that a lot of these principles will be universal.

How to Immediately Lose Your Chance at the Job

Roughly 20 candidates submitted applications for the job in question, and at least a third were completely off the mark. The funny thing is that almost all of these candidates had college degrees and a fair amount of experience, but so many of them made what seemed to me to be basic, no-excuse mistakes.

Because common sense is not always common, I thought Id share with you some of the bigger problems. Heres what they did wrong to get immediately shuffled to the no pile:

Another person wrote in to ask, Do you want my references now or later?

Someone else wrote in to ask, How do I apply for the job?

Uh, I get the point. Its better to just say barista.

Should You Put Dean’s List On Resume

If you are going to put “Deans List” on your resume, consider putting it on the same line as your GPA.

  • Cumulative GPA: 3.8/4.0 Deans List for all semesters

On the other hand, you may want to omit putting “Deans List” on your resume. Here are some comments on the value of “Deans List” from senior certified users.

TheBrofessor – Portfolio Manager:I got a 3.7 in UG but didn’t have dean’s list every semester , does that make my GPA worse than someone otherwise identical with a 3.5 but dean’s list all 4 semesters? I don’t think so.

aside: Dean’s List might also mean different things at different schools. at my school it was 3.5 GPA but nothing lower than a B . the B- rule is what fucked me. it’s technically possible to get a 3.8 or 3.9 at my school but still not make dean’s list , so I think if that’s the rule, “dean’s list” loses impact.

AdaptorDie – Corporate Development Manager:Dean’s List is pretty cheesy. When I see that on a rez it makes me think the person is trying to fluff themselves, like I can see the GPA right there. Dean’s List is just redundant to me, not a value add.

What Is A Deans List

Deans List should be a familiar term to university students and graduates.

A Deans List is an academic award, or notation, used to recognize the level of high scholarship demonstrated by students in a college or university. It is often synonymous with honor roll and honor list, but should not be confused with honours degrees.

Generally, students enrolled in college or university would need to satisfy a series of specific requirements before receiving the Deans List. These requirements may differ across institutions, but in most cases will require students to enroll in a full-time capacity, to achieve a specific grade point average within the academic term, and to maintain a specific cumulative grade point average throughout enrollment.

Deans List is an honorary roll assigned to the top students. As the Deans List is generally awarded to the top few percentile of students, the GPA cut-off to get onto the Deans List varies across faculties and academic semesters. If I were to give a ballpark estimate, your GPA has to be at least 3.6/4.0 or 4.5/5.0 to be considered for the Deans List. If it is a highly competitive semester where everyone scored very well, the cut-off will be higher.

is based on a total of 4.0. In Singapore, the universities use Cumulative Average Point which is based on a total of 5.0. For the rest of this series, Ill refer to the CAP system which is upon 5.0.)

Could Be Considered Unnecessary

The deans list is a list of your academic achievements and scores, which is, of course, really important information about you, especially if you are a fresh graduate without any real work experience.

However, there is but coming right now.

On some occasions, including deans list on your resume can be a bad choice because it may seem unnecessary to do it, especially if you are a very experienced and have been working in a consistent manner for a while.

In this case, including the deans list would just be pointless and it would just overcrowd your resume with unneeded information.

What Is The Dean’s List

The Dean’s List is the highest level of academic achievement that you can receive when you’re attending a university. You can be eligible to receive this honor if you have a grade point average of around 3.75 or greater through the course of the fall or spring semester.

However, your GPA requirements to be on the Dean’s List can be higher or lower depending on the school you attend. You may have to take at least 12 credit hours to receive this designation as this benchmark can prove that you’re a full-time student at the university. Again, look at your university’s Dean’s List qualifications to make this a goal for the next semester. You can use the Dean’s List achievement as a key performance indicator for your academic success as well.
