The Cross River State Government has set a plan to reopen schools onn June 16th 2020. However, the trial of resumption has been cautioned against by the Nigerian Medical Association .
The Nigerian Medical Association in Cross River has cautioned the state government against its plan to commence a trial resumption of schools.
The government planned to open three public schools in each of the three Senatorial Districts across the state on June 16.
The association made this known in a press release signed by its Chairman, Agam Ayuk, and the Secretary, Ezoke Epoke, on Saturday in Calabar.
The release stated that the medical community saw no evidence to ascertain the actual COVID-19 status and disease burden in the state due to the unacceptable low level of tests.
The Association maintained that the quick resumption of schools, in spite of genuine reasons, has the potential of significant disease outbreak among students.
The Association, however, called for the adoption of educational technologies to provide remote learning opportunities and educational programmes for students in public schools in the interim.
According to the release, the technology which is currently being implemented by private schools should be encouraged until a national policy is introduced on the unified resumption of schools by the Federal Government.

The governor said that the resumption is only for pupils and students in graduating classes.
The Lagos State Governor, Babajide Sanwo-Olu has announced that both public and private schools will resume on August 3, 2020, after over 3 months of being shut down due to the coronavirus pandemic. This was disclosed by the Governor while giving a situation report on COVID-19 at Lagos House Marina on July 3, 2020.
This is in line with the recent pronouncement by the Federal Government,
The governor said that the resumption is only for pupils and students in graduating classes, that is Primary 6, JSS 3, and SSS 3 who are preparing for exams.
He said other schools will remain closed and should continue with the online studies.
The permitted opening will be for only day schooling. No boarding activities are permitted during this time. School authorities are expected to prepare well from now till August 3.

Nigeria Government Permits Reopening of Schools
Nigeria reopened schools Oct. 12, six months after they were closed to curtail the spread of the coronavirus. However, not all parents believe students should be returning to the classroom.
Gloria Kwashi runs the Zambiri Outreach and Childcare Center in Jos, a school that provides free education and food for more than 400 children, including orphans and victims of insurgent violence. She says the pandemic brought her students’ learning to a complete halt.
“All the months that we left, nobody came to school and nobody learned anything, so it was already that bad,” she said. “Physical contact is what we capitalize on. If you remove physical contact, we go back to zero.”
According to the United Nations educational and scientific organization, UNESCO, almost 60 percent of students worldwide have been affected by COVID-19.
Nigeria’s Ministry of Education says despite measures put in place to help students cope with the suspension of classes, poorer students have been more affected because of their inability to afford remote learning.
Dabong Yepieng, the female student president of the federal government college in Jos, says even those who can afford online learning face challenges.
However, Idongesit Campbell, a father of two students, remains concerned.

Nigerias Minister of Education, Mallam Adamu Adamu, has said that the January 18, 2021 schools resumption date will not be changed.
In a statement on Thursday, the Minister said the decision to maintain the resumption date was the aftermath of extensive consultations with relevant stakeholders, including state governors, commissioners of education, proprietors and heads of institutions, staff unions and students respectively.
The statement issued on behalf of the Minister by the ministrys Director, Press and Public Relations, Bem Goong, urged parents and respective institutions to ensure full compliance with COVID-19 protocols.Sequel to the hint given during the press briefing on 12 January, 2021 for the review of the proposed resumption date of 18th January 2021, the Federal Ministry of Education has undertaken a comprehensive appraisal of the situation.
After extensive consultations with relevant stakeholders, including State Governors, Commissioners of Education, Proprietors and heads of institutions, staff unions and students, the consensus of opinion is that the resumption date of 18th January should remain, while parents and respective institutions must ensure full compliance with COVID-19 protocols, the statement said.
The governor also said the shift in the reopening date was due to the increase in Covid-19 cases recorded in the state.
According to the amended Academic Calendar, Lectures would continue as from Monday, 25th January, 2021.

When Will Schools Resume In Nigeria After Covid 19
At the moment, due the COVID-19 pandemic, there is no official date for resumption of schools in Nigeria. Therefore all primary, secondary and tertiary institutions will remain closed indefinitely. However, the government is making plans to enable JSS3 and SS3 students sitting for WAEC to write thier exams.

ABUJA, Jan. 14 — The Nigerian government on Thursday directed all schools to reopen on Jan. 18 despite a recent spike in COVID-19 cases in the country.
The directive followed a comprehensive appraisal of a school resumption proposal by stakeholders, Ben Goong, spokesperson for the Nigerian education ministry, told reporters.
“Parents and respective institutions must ensure full compliance with COVID-19 protocols, including the compulsory wearing of face masks by all students, teachers, and workers in all schools, temperature checks, and handwashing facilities at strategic locations in all schools,” said Goong.
“Also, they must ensure a constant supply of water, hand sanitizers, and enforcement of maintenance of social distancing and suspension of large gatherings such as assembly and visiting days,” Goong added.
Amid a second wave of COVID-19, Nigeria’s confirmed cases surpassed 100,000 late Sunday.

Examination commences on the 28th of September, 2020. Examination will hold for 2 weeks.
Collection of examination pass with evidence of payment of school fees and other levies will commence from 21st September, 2020.
Students who fail to pay all necessary fees will not be allowed to write the examination.
The second semester will commence immediately after the examination.
The 2019/2020 academic session will be concluded by the 3rd week of December.

Ondo Public Schools Resume For 2021/2022 Session Oct 4 Says Commissioner
The Ondo State Government has said that all public primary and secondary schools in the state will resume for the 2021/2022 academic session on Monday, October 4, 2021.
The Permanent Secretary, Ministry of Education, Science & Technology, Mrs. Lola Amuda, said the October 4th resumption date remains sacrosanct, and urged students, parents and guardians to disregard any rumour of extension.
She said: Government would not extend the resumption date because we were already lost to the prolonged lockdown last year due to the COVID-19 pandemic.
Amuda enjoined students, parents and guardians to adhere strictly to the Covid-19 prevention protocols in line with government directive during the registration of new intakes.

Fg To Review School Resumption Plans
Barely a week to the proposed resumption of schools across Nigeria, the Federal Government has made a U-turn on the directive and announced that the date, January 18th, 2021, would be subjected to another review considering an upsurge in the number of COVID-19 pandemic positive cases recorded recently in the country.
The government added that from tomorrow, the Ministry of Education would commence a review of the date to determine when safe for schools to resume for the 2020/2021 second term across the country.
Announcing the new development on Monday at the Presidential Task Force on COVID-19 press briefing in Federal Capital Territory Abuja, Minister of Education, Adamu Adamu, said that the rising cases have become a source of worries to the government.
Adamu said,When we decided on that date, it was just a target toward what we are working on.
Of course we are keeping it in view and looking at what is happening in the society and then it is supposed to be subject to constant review.
Even today at the PTF meeting, we looked at the rising figures and thought we should probably take another look at it. On the Jan.18, 2021 date for schools resumption, we are reviewing it, he said.
