How Hard Is It To Get Hired By Tim Hortons

So as a University Student, Im looking into a job for the summer, and was thinking about Tim Hortons. While Ive never worked in retail, or have cashier experience, Ive worked in about 4-5 volunteer positions. An example would be working at the front desk my local hospital, utilizing the computer to relay patient information for visiting family members, and direct people around. Another example would be volunteering in a nursing home.

Without me going further any and typing out my resume, Ive found its been difficult getting responses from retail stores like Shoppers Drug Mart, Walmart, Zehrs etc, because I assume they would prefer previous paid work experience. It feels like they kind of disregard some of that volunteer experience, though a lot of it required me to possess strong communication skills among others.

That being said, is it also really hard to get hired by Tim Hortons, if I only have volunteer experience? From what Ive seen, it feels like for some employees there, this may be their first form of work ever . Im just wondering if I should even bother to spend any time applying to every franchise in my vicinity, as the search seems hopeless.
