Local Residents Thankful But Still Frustrated As Postal Delivery Resumes After Historic Storm
WACO, Texas – The aftermath of a historic Texas storm continued Monday as delivery services were handling a backlog of mail and packages.
The Postal Service is working hard to fully restore service to its customers, USPS spokesperson Beckly Hernandez told KWTX.
The ice storm, which impacted every county in the state starting Feb. 11, caused mail and package delivery to be delayed, and in many cases suspended.
However, on Monday USPS postal carriers, along with FedEx and UPS drivers, were out in full force trying to play catch-up.
We realize businesses and residences throughout the country have been impacted by the weather, and USPS employees are working around the clock to make sure mail and packages are processed and delivered, said Hernandez.
While some Waco residents were simply glad things were returning to normal, others, like Lillie Leos, remained frustrated.
Everythings running slow and its been a couple days now, so its really upsetting me, said Leos.
Leos says she came to pickup a letter she was told would be at the USPS location on Clay Ave. Monday, but it hadnt arrived.
I come over here, and they say its not even here yet, to come back tomorrow, said Leos. Very frustrating, it gives me a big old headache just running back and forth.
The wait Monday didnt bother Brandon Carnes, a professional track runner living in Waco.
There was a little line, but it wasnt that bad at all, said Carnes.

Lake Charles, LA – The Louisiana District of the United States Postal Service announced Monday that most mail delivery and retail operations in the 700, 701, 703, and 704 3-Digit ZIP Code areas will resume Tuesday.
The suspension on the areas was due to Hurricane Ida, according to the USPS.
The USPS said starting Tuesday, September 7, almost all post offices beginning with ZIP Codes 700, 701, 703, and 704 will resume retail services and delivery, where it is safe to do so, with the exception of a few Post Offices.
These offices will either provide service via an alternate location or customers will be served by a USPS mobile retail unit at the site of their regular Post Office , according to the USPS.
Customers will be able to conduct postal retail transactions, fill out change of address and hold mail forms, and pick up their P.O. Box mail with proper identification, according to the USPS.

Postal Service: Damage To Houston Facility Will Not Impact Local Mail
The United States Postal Service says there should be no impact to mail service in the Brazos Valley following the collapse of a distribution center in Houston during Imelda.
Three people were taken to a hospital on Thursday with minor injuries when the building collapsed without warning on the north side of the city. A few vehicles were badly damaged when the side of the building fell on them.
No mail was damaged or lost in the storm, according to a spokeswoman.

BRYAN, Texas – Many of people have asked when theyll see mail and packages delivered. Here is what KBTX found out.
According to the United States Postal Service website all delivery offices were shutdown on Tuesday. On Wednesday, 11 post offices in the Houston district were reopened.
In a statement FedEx said, Prolonged severe weather is continuing to impact much of the FedEx network in the U.S., including the ability to pick up and deliver in certain cities. We have contingency plans in place to help lessen the effect of inclement weather on operations and service, and we are implementing those plans as were able. The safety of our team members is our top priority as we work to provide the best possible service for our customers. The United States Postal Service has temporarily suspended activity at multiple Houston-area facilities until further notice due to the impact of Tropical Storm Imelda.
Despite damage experienced at the north Houston mail processing facility, USPS says it is working daily to return to full operations, as soon as we can safely do so.

USPS released the following statement Monday:
“The safety of employees and customers is our primary concern. We continue to work hard every day to reconnect our customers and businesses with their mail. The majority of our major processing infrastructure is up and running and the mail is moving. Most of our Post Offices are open for business and we are delivering to homes and businesses, wherever it is safe and accessible to do so.
A few postal facilities still remain inaccessible. The USPS says it will continually assess facilities to ensure they are safe to occupy.
For those Post Offices still unable to be occupied, it is currently operating in alternate locations until repairs can be made, as listed below.
If your Post Office is not listed, that means it is open and fully operational.
