On the right, go to Edit public profile & URL.

Applying For Jobs On Linkedin Add Your Resume Using Easy Apply

Now, when looking for work, its best to tailor your resume to each position rather than use the same one for all applications. Customizing your resume to the job not only improves your chances of getting hired but also shows the recruiter that you’re dedicated and detail-oriented.

And, unfortunately, simply adding your resume to your LinkedIn profile doesnt allow you to tailor your resume to specific job positions.

The good news? LinkedIn has thought about this.

If youre job hunting and applying to several positions, you can upload different, customized versions of your resume using LinkdeIn’s Easy Apply function.

Heres exactly how you can do it:

Step #1: For starters, check the job position youre applying for. The Easy Apply function will allow you to upload your resume straight to LinkedIn. Any listing that just has an “Apply” tab will require you to submit your resume via a third-party website.

Step #2: If applicable, select Easy Apply. Scroll down until you see a button that says Upload Resume.

Step #3: To upload your resume, navigate to the resume file on your computer and select Open.

Step #4: From here on, you can keep revising your application and, when finished, click the Submit Application tab.

The best part? LinkedIn will save this version of your resume in case you need to use it for another job.

How Long After Applying For A Job Should You Follow Up

As a general rule, you should wait one to two weeks after submitting your resume to follow up with the company.

The hiring process takes time, and if you havent heard back for a few days after applying for a job, it may just mean that the employer is still reviewing your application materials.

Every companys decision timeline is different but its rarely the same day or even same week.

Theyll often let applications pile up, review them all at once, and then take a few more days to reach back out to send you a request to interview.

So whether you applied via a job board, directly on the company site, or through another channel, itll likely be a few days or more until your cover letter and resume are read.

For this reason, its best to wait one to two weeks before you send a job application follow-up email.

Job seekers who follow up sooner run the risk of overwhelming the hiring manager before theyve had a chance to review recent job applications on their normal schedule.

The Dos And Donts Of Adding Your Resume To Linkedin

When developing your LinkedIn profile, a simple copy and paste of your resume just wont cut it.

Yes, a LinkedIn profile is an online version of your resume the keyword is online. That means that you are targeting this profile for an online audience, and that is very different from targeting an offline audience.

The attention span of an online reader is shorter than that of an offline reader. When it comes to LinkedIn, you are hoping to catch the attention of a recruiter and maybe even a hiring manager these are individuals who spend their days reviewing resumes.

When they receive hard copy resumes for a position, they already know that the individual is interested in the role and may be qualified for it.

However, LinkedIn is completely different. If they are searching through the hundreds of millions of profiles on LinkedIn to find a candidate that they think is qualified for the role, the process becomes far more daunting. Suddenly a stack of a few hundred resumes doesnt seem so bad.

That is why your LinkedIn profile needs to catch their attention with the right information right away. Weve compiled a list of a few ways that you need to differentiate your LinkedIn profile from your resume in order to get better results in the online space.

What Is An Ats Scan And How Do I Ensure My Resume Will Pass

ATS stands for Applicant Tracking System. It is a program that scans and filters resumes before a human reader from the company receives them. The ATS scanner is designed to weed out resumes that dont demonstrate the appropriate qualifications for the job, as well as to sort resumes based on different keywords to help human readers within the company decide who to call in and for which departments.

There are several ways to ensure that your resume will be approved by the ATS scanner and sent forward. Appropriate formatting and file types are essential. A .docx file is more easily read by the scanner and should be your default version, though a PDF is also acceptable and should be used if this is the version specifically requested in the posting. Use basic formatting and a chronological layout, as these are typically preferred by both the ATS scanner and the human readers.

You will want to pay close attention if you use an external resume builder to compile your document, as some of these programs produce a JPEG file, which will be rejected through the ATS system. In order to ensure that your resume is filtered correctly, you should include keywords that are relevant to the position, such as degrees, certifications, and pre-requisite internships or jobs, so that your resume will be sorted properly. As mentioned previously, be sure to provide evidence of these skills for the human reader who will ultimately decide who to call in.

Tips For Filling Out Your Linkedin Profile

Create a Resume in Seconds from your LinkedIn Profile

It is a good idea to think of yourself as a brand â someone with the right skills, experience and attitude for the job.

After all, LinkedIn is a personal marketing platform. If you are wondering why interest in your profile may have stagnated, it could be that your personal brand needs attention.

One of the biggest mistakes people make is not including all the key aspects they would include within a LinkedIn resume. They may miss out key roles and only provide a summary of the company rather than their achievements.

Use Specific Search Terms

There are several ways you can narrow down your search to only show the most relevant candidates. Make sure to add enough search terms so you dont end up with a huge list of candidates to wade through.

You can add search terms for:

  • Name
  • Location
  • Current workplace

Remember to select the People tab so you only see candidate results rather than jobs, companies, groups, posts, or events.

The people who show up first in search results will be those:

  • Youre connected to
  • With whom you share mutual connections
  • Who are in the same groups as you

You can add a variety of search terms to find the right candidates. Image source: Author

You can also see LinkedIn Open Candidates, or those people who have checked the option in their profile to indicate theyre open to being contacted about job opportunities but who arent necessarily actively looking for work.

Dont: Include Your Current Title As Your Headline

LinkedIn provides you the option to include the title of your current role as your headline. Do not use this option. Remember, this is an online space. In the online world, you want to be searchable. Therefore, the headline should be common keywords and terms that recruiters would use to find individuals in your role .

Upload A Resume To Linkedin As Featured Media

LinkedIn allows users to upload articles, links, and files to their profile. If you want employers to read your resume when they find you on LinkedIn, you should upload a resume under your name and headline as Featured Media.

Heres how to upload your resume to your LinkedIn profile:

Step 1: Go to your profile.

Step 2: Click the Add profile section button, and expand the Featured tab.

Step 3: Select Media and choose the resume file you want to upload from your computer.

Although you can post a resume on your LinkedIn profile, we dont recommend uploading your resume here for two reasons.

First, depending on your privacy settings, your resume is available for anyone on LinkedIn to view and download. Its important to be careful when sharing personal information, such as your name and address.

Second, LinkedIn already shows your work history. Recruiters can see your resume by looking at your profile an additional file isnt needed.

You should get recruiters to notice you on LinkedIn by regularly updating your work history and being active on the platform, not by adding your resume to your LinkedIn profile.

You Dont Need To Follow Up After Every Resume You Send

Time is valuable in your job search, and while I do recommend you follow-up for feedback after each interview, I dont recommend you follow up on every unanswered job application.

Especially if youre applying for many positions on job boards, LinkedIn, etc., its just too time-consuming to circle back and send a job application follow-up to each employer.

And that time could be spent applying for more jobs.

In most cases, an employer will see your application/resume and will respond within a few weeks if theyre interested.

So I recommend being selective and writing a follow-up email after sending your resume only when:

  • The role is particularly interesting/exciting to you
  • The company is your dream employer
  • You have new information about your recent work/qualifications to share with the company details that werent included in the resume you submitted
  • You applied in the past, gave up on the role, and saw the position recently posted again
  • You already received an initial response from the company and just need an update on the decision timeline, interview process/scheduling, etc.

Or, I recommend you find the hiring manager on LinkedIn or Twitter immediately after you apply for the job, and send them a quick message there to draw attention to your application.

That can boost your odds of hearing back and getting an interview quickly after submitting your application.

It can help you move to the interview stage quickly.

Finding Recruiters On Linkedin

On LinkedIn, search for people at the companies you want to work for who have titles like “Recruiter,” “Staffing Manager,” or “Sr. Staffing Specialist.” LinkedIn allows dozens of searches even if you’re a free user.

If you’re out of searches, you can also use smart Google search operators. All you need to do is add the keyword, “” to a search on Google, and that’ll tell Google to show you only LinkedIn profiles.

For example, let’s say I wanted to find profiles of Product Design recruiters who work in San Francisco. Search Google for, “” and you’ll get direct links to all LinkedIn profiles that match those keywords with no restrictions! Of course, change the other keywords to the roles and location you’re searching for.
