Resume Summary Or Objective

Resume Tips: Avoid These 8 Mistakes | Indeed Career Tips

Your or objective statement either provides a quick overview of your current skills and experiences or areas goals youre hoping to accomplish in your career .

If your current summary does not reflect your most recent, relevant and impressive qualities, update it with any new skills or experiences you have gained. Keep your summary brief by only including key achievements instead of several tasks or responsibilities from your past.

For example, if your resume summary currently states that you are a skilled and attentive teaching assistant, but you have since earned a teaching license and worked independently as a lead teacher, you may want to change your summary to state that you are a skilled and certified teacher.

Additionally, if you have an objective statement on your resume and have since gained professional experience, you might consider replacing it with a resume summary. Objectives are best for recent college graduates or those with limited work experience.

Consider A Hybrid Resume

There are two major types of resumes, namely, the chronological resume. The chronological resume lists work experience and academic qualifications in order of the most recent. In contrast, functional resumes are more recent and prioritize the candidate’s skills and achievements. A functional resume is generally more effective for professionals with a lot of experience and skills. You may also want to update your resume when you have learned a new skill such as proficiency in a programming language or industry-specific software application.

2. When information becomes out of date. Other sections you should pay attention to for out-of-date information include:

How To Upload A Resume To Indeed

What follows are some guidelines for uploading a resume to Indeed.com, an increasingly popular job aggregator and employment search website.

Is It Good To Post Your Resume Online

How To Update Your Email on Indeed

Can I Change The Formatting Of My Indeed Resume

When you upload your own resume to Indeed, we recommend uploading a file type that is either a Word document, a PDF created from a text file , or a plain .txt, .rtf, .html, or .odt file.

Once you upload the file, the system will automatically convert it into an Indeed format. This is because we want to keep Indeed resumes looking relatively uniform and in chronological order, so that employers can review them quickly and easily. Using uniform formatting also makes it simpler for users to edit and update their Indeed resumes.

If your resume is not organized in the traditional format, our system may not recognize different sections and some of your information might be missing or not be showing correctly on the website. We understand that this is not ideal, however, if this does happen, you can always edit your resume by signing in to your account.

We know that it takes time to create a resume that reflects your style and personal brand so you are always able to apply to jobs using your original resume file. We are working on improving our Job Seekers experience, and in one of our recent updates, resumes will be uploaded as-is without parsing or reformatting the files. These files, however, are not able to be made public or edited.

In order to do that, you would need to click ‘delete’ on the page to remove the file, then click Build a resume. The next screen will show a button where you can ‘Upload an existing resume’ and go back to the way it was.

Download Your Resume And Select A Style

Finally, Indeed also enables you to download your resume straight from your Indeed account. All you have to do is scroll to the bottom of your profile page and click the ‘resume’ option to view your resume. Once there, you can click the ‘download resume’ button and a dialog box will open and prompt you to choose a style. Indeed offers several styles for downloading your resume. Simply choose your favorite style and download it to your device.

List Your Current Contact Information

Review the contact information listed on your resume and make sure your phone number and email address are up to date. If your resume is older, it may have an extensive amount of information including your physical address, relationship status and a headshot.

Some employers may have required employees to include these elements on their resume years ago. Many hiring managers have since updated their requirements to listing only a phone number and email address in this section. You can also include your online portfolio information in this section, if applicable.

Include Your Most Recent Education

If you have received any additional education since last updating your resume, you can list this in its respective section. Be sure to include the institution you received this degree from, the degree’s name and the year you earned it. You should list your education chronologically, starting with your most recent degree.

If you have your high school diploma listed in this section, you can remove this unless the employer requests it. Hiring managers are often more interested in viewing degrees or certificates earned from educational institutions like universities or trade schools.

Once you have deleted your Indeed Resume, you can upload a new resume file by clicking Upload your resume and selecting the file youd like to upload from your device. Keep Your Resume Within A Page

Except when the hiring manager expressly says otherwise, always keep your resume within a page for entry and mid-level professionals. Senior-level professionals with many qualifications can extend their resumes to two pages. As hiring managers review many resumes, they can’t spend too much time on each one. Keeping your resume within a page makes them more likely to review it properly. If your resume exceeds a page, it likely contains irrelevant information. You can remove redundant or repetitive information to keep it within a page.
