How Do I List Mba In Progress On Linkedin
Even if you use headings or not, dedicate a space in your summary and discuss highlights of your MBA and really showcase it here. Add it to the Education section Obviously, youre going to include the MBA in the Education section and its just a matter of filling the fields that are in there.
Pitfall #: Not Showing Progression Over Time And/or Downplaying Selectivity
This one is a biggie, and its quite common. Stacking titles and then listing all of the responsibilities youve had makes it almost impossible for admissions committees to see an increase in responsibility over time. When you stack your titles, or worseleave off your promotions, it makes it seem as though youve been much less successful than you have. This point should really resonate with the consultants and engineers in the group. Often these groups wont have traditional title promotions, therefore, its important to highlight moments in your career when you were selected to lead a project, or when you were given control of or access to a client portfolio thats not typical of someone at your experience level.
If youre an early career applicant , youll need to emphasise ahead-of-schedule promotions and provide examples of how your achievements in 3-4 years are equal to or greater than what most applicants achieve in 5-6 years.

Prioritize The First Bullets Of Each Section
MBA recruiters will be scanning hundreds of resumes before they decide who to hire into their respective firms. With the sheer critical mass of resumes, you simply cant expect these reviewers to read through your entire resume. Additionally, the vast majority of application rejections happen early on in the review process. Therefore, if you have some great accomplishment that doesnt stand out on your resume, you run the risk of being dropped from recruiting early on.
Make sure the first two bullet points of each job title you have are your best bullet points. When reviewing resumes during my second year, it was surprising to me how many people put great bullets either in the middle or bottom of their section. Take the time to get feedback from others and find out which bullets are the most impressive. Then prioritize these bullets so that they will stand out during a recruiters quick scan.
Thing : Start With Whats Most Relevant And Recent
In general, youll want to start off with your most recent job and work backwards, leaving your education last. This is in contrast to a job resume, which often starts off with your educational history. Your most recent job is the one thats of the most interest to the MBA committee, so it should be the one you devote the most space to.
If you have any gaps between jobs, explain them, but dont worry about covering every single job youve ever had. If you worked a summer job in college that isnt relevant to your business career, then dont bother to include it. Its ok if your resume only shows employment at 2-3 companies, so long as that makes up the bulk of your professional career.

Mba Resume Tip #2 Make Your Mba Resume Skimmable
Typically, business school applications are initially read by 2 independent readers, and on average, they take 15-20 minutes to go through each application. Once they are done with the initial read-through, the readers provide a recommendation about an applicantâs candidacy. Put yourself in the shoes of such a reader and take a look at the two resumes below.
Which one would you prefer to read?
Thus, you must make your resume easy to read. Following are some tips to make your resume skimmable:
- Use proper margins and spacing between bullet points to make reading easy on the eye.
- Consolidate repetitive information into concise bullet points wherever possible.
- If youâve held multiple roles or have been promoted at the organizations you work in, make sure you stack your job titles. This clearly illustrates your career progression and saves valuable resume real estate.
What Should I Put On My Resume If I Dont Have Any Business Experience
One of the most difficult hurdles to creating a resume is a lack of relevant, real-world employment experience. This is also a common problem for individuals who are looking to change careers. If you earned an MBA with the hopes of beginning a new profession, but you have little or no business experience beyond the classroom, there are still ways you can sell yourself and your unique qualities to a hiring manager.
Rather than beginning your resume with a list of employment history, start with your education, licenses, skills, and qualifications. By placing your focus on these attributes, you may pique the hiring managers interest before he or she notes your lack of direct work experience. When it comes to the job history section, however, dont be afraid to list your former jobs that might not be 100% related. Every job you hold has the potential to offer transferable skills to a new and different workplace. What did you learn at jobs A, B, and C that will help you in job D? Also list any relevant volunteer work in its own section, as this may help make up for a lack of paid experience.

Thing : Highlight Results Not Job Duties
The admissions team can figure out your general job duties after all, you arent the first person with that job description theyve interviewed. Focus on what you did differently. Did you manage a larger portfolio? Lead a remote team spread out all over the world? Focus on the big-picture items, not whether you facilitated company meetings and answered phone calls.
Keep It To One Page Only
Its important to show your impressive experience and education, however, brevity and clarity are also key. Keep in mind admissions committees read thousands of CVs, so the likelihood of your four-page CV getting their full attention is unlikely.
Many programs, including Stanford, explicitly mention they want one page CVs.
If you have a story to tell or want to provide more context, look to your MBA essays as the proper outlet to build a narrative. Your CV should be short yet powerful!

Provide Relevant Contact Details
Start your MBA resume with your name and basic contact details.
Just like the title of a book gives that particular book a unique identity, your name will give a unique identity to your resume. Therefore, your full name should be at the very top of your resume, making it convenient for the client to reach out and remember your name.
In the header, the phone number and email address should be enough in most cases.
You can also include a link to your LinkedIn profile, but make sure it is updated and matches with the resume.
The rest of the details, such as the full address, can be mentioned in the Footer.
Mba Resume: Recommended Writing Style
As mentioned earlier, the admissions committees at MBA programs look at an applicants MBA resume as an indicator of their communication skills. To impress them, its important to make your MBA resume substantive, economical, and precise. Avoid cluttering up the page with filler words. Stick to adding bulleted lists to convey the key achievements for each experience/project and dont add more than 2-3 lines per bullet.
A good tip here is to make sure your bullets focus on actions, intentions, and results. Begin each bullet with impactful action verbs that highlight leadership, collaboration, innovation, strategy, negotiation, and achievement. This means that rather than leading with action verbs such as responsible for was part of and so on, try to use action verbs such as achieved, created performed organized increased, etc.
There should be an overarching narrative in your resume and each bullet should contribute to building the story. Leave out the functional responsibilities and, instead, focus on the key business goals and measurable results expressed in solid facts and figures. For example, rather than just saying Responsible for monitoring the customer service department try saying Implemented a cross-department customer service protocol that reduced direct labor costs by 32%.

The Purpose Of The Mba Resume
The MBA resume stands as the centerpiece of your application. Its a useless task to attempt to rank the resumes importance alongside your career goals essay, other essays, and interview, as each application component is vital in its own way, but more often than not the resume will stand as the first page an admissions committee looks at when reviewing your application.
The resume provides the framework through which your essays will be read, and it will form the basis for the questions youll be asked in your interview. In other words, your resume will be referred to during the admissions process far more often than any other application component.
Think of the resume as the what of your application. The essays are the why.
If in your essays you get to demonstrate who you are and how you think, in your resume you get to show off what youve accomplished. However, this doesnt mean the resume is a list. By definition, sure, the resume is a list, but a strong resume tells a story about your career trajectory thus far, and your future trajectory should be able to be predicted based on your past achievements.
So, what story should you try to tell through your resume? Simple. The story of an impassioned leader who has made an impact wherever shes gone. Due to the resumes required brevity, which leaves little room to elaborate, crafting a compelling growth story can be difficult.
Can I Put Mba After My Name
List your MBA after your full name when aiming to attract new clients. This might be where you want to list your MBA concentrations, too. When you first contact a potential client, youll want to show that youre highly educated and qualified to handle their business, so sign your full name with your title afterward.

Holistic Understanding Of Business
Most MBA students join the programme as a specialist in one particular industry, but graduate with a broad knowledge of all areas of business. When someone understands how each function of a business fits in to the overall picture, they understand how decisions can affect other business units and their ability to think strategically is significantly increased. This knowledge is considered extremely valuable to employers and infers leadership qualities, and as such should be featured on MBA resumes.
