What Is A Ged
The General Educational Development is a group of tests designed for students who did not graduate high school, certifying that the respective students have the same level of skills and knowledge as a high school graduate. It typically consists of four subject areas: mathematical reasoning, reasoning through language arts, science and social studies.
As a general policy, the test is available for anyone that’s 16 or older and is not enrolled in high school. However, some states require students to be at least 17 years old, while others require students that are younger than 17 to submit letters of consent from their parents and from the local school district.
Passing the GED implies earning a score of at least 145 out of 200 on each of the four subject areas. If an applicant fails to reach the minimum score in one or more subject areas, they will be allowed to retake them without also retaking those that they passed. Depending on their final score, a student who passes the GED tests can fall into three categories:
Some states, such as California, offer their own high school equivalency programs. There are also alternative nation-wide programs, such as the HiSET and the TASC .
Use Your Ged To Apply For College
Did you know that 60% of people who get a GED eventually enroll in college? Most colleges accept people with a GED on the condition they score above a certain limit.
That limit changes from college to college, but 165 is the lower limit for a college application. And If you score above 175, you are eligible for credits in most colleges.
Before you apply for college, read about that college’s GED policies. You will also need a copy of your GED certificate.

On a personal level, earning your GED is likely to lead to an increase in self-esteem and a sense of accomplishment. It is a program designed for people who were not able to complete high school for various reasons, and earning a high school equivalency will probably improve your confidence and morale.
Don’t Mention Ged On Resume If You Have A Long Career
As I wrote previously, mentioning your education is more important when you’re just starting out your career.
Once you get a few jobs under your belt, it’s okay to drop your education section out of your resume.
If you have a solid job experience, you’re more likely to get an interview if you don’t mention you have a high school or high school equivalent diploma.
If they ask you just tell the truth. It doesn’t matter by then, you already got the hardest part nailed down, which is getting the job interview.
