The Novak Djokovic visa saga was finally brought to an end on Sunday after almost 12 days when he was deported from Australia just one day before he was scheduled to play at the Australian Open 2022. However, according to the French Sports Ministry, the Serbian tennis star will not be allowed to enter the country for the French Open after the country passed a new vaccine pass law. Frances vaccine pass law was approved by the Parliament on Sunday and it requires people to have a certificate of vaccination to enter public places such as restaurants, cafes, cinemas, and long-distance trains.

According to reports on Monday, the sports ministry said in a statement that every spectator or professional sportsperson will require to have the vaccine pass. As reported by AP, the French sports ministry also said that once the new law is placed, no exemptions will be made until further notice. Now, according to a report by ESPN, UEFA has informed Real Madrid and Chelsea that their unvaccinated players will have to follow the rules of France when they travel for their Champions League matches.

France Covid Law: Real Madrid And Chelsea Face Uncertainty Over Champions League Clash

Real Madrid are drawn with French giants Paris Saint-Germain and Chelsea are drawn with Lille. They will have to travel to France for their respective away leg matches and given the new restrictions that have come into force in France, it could be problematic for the players that are unvaccinated in the Blancos and the Blues squad. UEFA told ESPN in a statement that they are liaising with the relevant ‘stakeholders’ across Europe prior to Champions League and the rest of UEFA’s tournaments resuming. There is also a possibility that those specific matches be played in a neutral venue but that was not mentioned by UEFA.

“UEFA is liaising with the relevant stakeholders across Europe ahead of the resumption of UEFA’s club competitions in February,” the statement to ESPN from UEFA read. “The specific conditions under which matches are played in each country are subject to the decisions of the competent authorities in that country. Each team will in principle be required to comply with the applicable rules in the country where the match takes place, but the specific competition Annexes — still under elaboration — which contain special rules due to COVID-19 applicable to the knockout phase, may provide further guidance in this regard.”

Opinion: Ranking Juves Potential Champions League Round Of 16 Opponents

After snatching the groups lead from underneath Chelsea at the very last minute, Juventus will meet one of the groups runners-up in the Champions League round of 16.

Although this would supposedly guarantee an easier road to the later stages, the Bianconeri were eliminated at this stage of the competition at the hands of Lyon and Porto in the last two versions.

Therefore, well be much more cautious this time before using the term favorable draw.

However, one cant deny the vast difference in level between the Old Ladys six potential opponents, with some of them being European giants, while others are up-and-coming sides who are trying to make a name for themselves at the biggest continental stage.

So lets rank Juves potential opponents in the round 16 based on their level, from the probable weakest to the strongest.

When Will The Champions League Resume Uefa Set Out Plan To Get Tournament Finished

The 2019/20 Champions League is set to be completed in a 12-day mini tournament as football looks to combat the coronavirus pandemic.

Europes elite competition is midway through the Round of 16 but has had to be halted amid the ongoing issues surrounding the virus.

The Premier League have confirmed plans to get their campaign back underway on June 17 and now UEFA have worked out how best to finish off their tournament.

How long is the Champions League suspended for?

The Round of 16 second leg ties on Tuesday, March 10 and Wednesday, March 11 were the last fixtures to be played.

Atletico Madrid, PSG, RB Leipzig and Atalanta all progressed while Liverpool and Tottenham were among the teams to be eliminated.

The other Round of 16 second legs were postponed on Sunday, March 15 with Chelsea and Manchester City among the sides with their ties still unfinished.

As those games could not be played to a conclusion, the draw for the quarter-finals has also been postponed.

In a statement on March 23, UEFA confirmed that the Champions League final has been postponed.

Champions League Ready To Resume At Long Last

Uefa Champions League don return

After an enforced hiatus of almost five months, the UEFA Champions League and Europa League resume this week in order to clear up the last remaining business in a troubled season.

Both competitions were frozen in March as the coronavirus pandemic took hold across the continent, and while European football’s governing body acted swiftly to move Euro 2020 back a year, for a long time it was unclear how it would manage to complete its two landmark club competitions.

In the end the solution was to set up two mini tournaments bringing all teams together in one place from the quarter-finals onwards, with all ties being decided in one-off matches behind closed doors.

And so the Champions League will move to Lisbon for the ‘Final Eight’ starting on August 12 and ending with the final at Benfica’s Estadio da Luz on August 23.

The Europa League, meanwhile, will be played to a conclusion at a series of venues in western Germany, with the last eight beginning on August 10 and the final in Cologne on August 21.

“I believed it from the first moment,” said the UEFA president Aleksander Ceferin recently when asked if he ever doubted it would be possible to play the tournaments to a conclusion.

“You should always be optimistic, and if something like this crisis happens, you must have a plan ready.

“At the present time, we will be playing matches without spectators until further notice. We will not take any risks.”

UEFA Champions League

UEFA held a video conference on Tuesday, March 17, in which it decided to postpone Euro 2020 to 2021. The postponement of the second-largest mens soccer tournament in the world means European leagues will have the opportunity to conclude in the summer, assuming the pandemic crisis has subsided.

On April 1, UEFA suspended Champions League and Europa League matches “until further notice.” UEFA initially said it wanted to complete both the Champions League and Europa League by June 30, with president Aleksander Ceferin saying the season could be lost if it is not completed by that date. These dates have been pushed back however, given the severity of the coronavirus pandemic throughout Europe and the world.

On May 17, UEFA said it was aiming to complete the Champions League and Europa League campaigns by August.

On June 15, reports suggested UEFA would hold an eight-team tournament in August. After the Round of 16 is completed at the scheduled venues Aug. 7-8, the quarterfinals will be Aug. 12-15 followed by semifinals Aug. 18-19 and the final on Aug. 23, all in Lisbon. Man City Could Discover Champions League Ban Fate Before Resuming This Season’s Competition

City vehemently deny financial fair play breaches and the CAS could now deliver its verdict on club’s appeal in July, with top players’ futures potentially at stake

  • 00:13, 9 JUN 2020

Manchester City could discover next month whether their appeal against their two-year European ban has been successful.

The Court of Arbitration for Sport began hearing Citys appeal for allegedly breaching UEFAs Financial Play Play rules by video conference at their headquarters in Lausanne on Monday.

The case is expected to last three days and CAS general secretary Matthieu Reeb says they could now deliver their verdict in July – and before City are due to resume their Champions League campaign.

City and UEFAs legal teams are presenting their cases by video link and Reeb said the technology is working well.

The hearing has started well and the video conference is working well, he said.

UEFA banned City from European competition for two years and fined them £25m for allegedly overstating sponsorship revenue to hide their non-compliance of their FFP rules between 2012 and 2016.

The club vehemently deny the charges and could appeal to the Swiss Federal Court if CAS reject their appeal.

If the ban is upheld, it is thought City could be hit by a mass exodus of key players, with the likes of Kevin De Bruyne and Raheem Sterling likely to consider their futures.

In this season’s competition, City hold a 2-1 lead from the first leg of their last-16 tie against Real Madrid.

Uefa Champions League Reveals Schedule Of Dates Format For Return Amid Covid

UEFA announced Wednesday that its Champions League will resume in August with the quarterfinals, semifinals and final all being played in Lisbon, Portugal.

It was also announced that each of the remaining rounds will be single-leg fixtures. Usually, the quarterfinals and semifinals are two-legged fixtures, with teams advancing on aggregate if they split the matches.

Four of the eight round-of-16 fixtures have been completed, but the other four each have one leg remaining after getting interrupted by the coronavirus pandemic. It has yet to be determined if those matches will take place in the Portuguese capital or at the stadium of the home teams as originally intended.

The round-of-16 legs will be played on Aug. 7-8, followed by the quarterfinals Aug. 12-15, the semifinals Aug. 18-19 and the final Aug. 23.

Benfica’s Estadio do Sport Lisboa e Benfica and Sporting CP’s Estadio Jose Alvalade will be the host venues for the quarterfinals, semifinals and final. Should the remaining round-of-16 fixtures need to be played in Portugal, they will emanate from Estadio do Dragao in Porto or Estadio D. Afonso Henriques in Guimaraes.

Thus far, Paris Saint-Germain, Atletico Madrid, Leipzig and Atalanta have all advanced to the final eight. The remaining fixtures in the round of 16 are Juventus vs. Lyon, Manchester City vs. Real Madrid, Bayern Munich vs. Chelsea and Barcelona vs. Napoli.

Dimitar Berbatov Names Club To Win Champions League This Season

Former Manchester United striker, Dimitar Berbatov has named Pep Guardiolas Manchester City as the favourite club to win the Champions League this season.

The Champions League last-16 fixtures will resume in February and Man City will face Sporting.

Recall that the Premier League champions finished runner up in the Champions League last season after losing 1-0 to Chelsea in the final.

Speaking to Betfair, Berbatov said, We always expect the English teams to dominate , but lets not forget there are still some very strong European teams out there, like Bayern Munich, theyve always been a great team and they know how to play.

Looking at the Premier League teams, I know that City, Liverpool, Chelsea and United are the teams that the rest of Europe will be looking to beat.

City are the favourites but I still think Bayern Munich could have a big say in things this year.
