Why Won’t My Resume Upload
Having trouble getting your resume to upload? Typically, the issues with resumes are:1. You’ve saved it as a docx file instead of a doc file. Unfortunately, we can’t assume that all companies will have the latest version of microsoft office, so we limit the file type to pdf or doc files. Docx files are what is now standard on office, but you’ll need to save it as a doc file if you are using that file type.2. The resume is very large because it contains a graphic or an oversized photo. If you have a photo on your resume, reduce the photo size first with file reduction software before pasting it to your resume. The FAQ for image reduction can be found here.3. You have an odd character in the resume title. Our program does allow for standard characters, but if you have a / or a ” other items that are typically used in programming or file sorting, it will prevent the file from being uploaded.
Download Your Resume And Select A Style
Finally, Indeed also enables you to download your resume straight from your Indeed account. All you have to do is scroll to the bottom of your profile page and click the ‘resume’ option to view your resume. Once there, you can click the ‘download resume’ button and a dialog box will open and prompt you to choose a style. Indeed offers several styles for downloading your resume. Simply choose your favorite style and download it to your device.

Use Filtering Options To Narrow Results
To narrow your results even further, use Indeeds filtering tools. The filter options are listed in the left-hand column after you make a search.
The first two filtering options are by distance and last updated date:
Use filters to set distance, last updated date, availability, job titles, and more.
The remainder of the search criteria focuses on filtering for job-specific information.

Does Indeed Actually Work
It works, just that companies have way more ads than actual hires. Don’t blame indeed.com that you are not getting jobs. That is only a platform that pulls jobs from many other job sites into one place. It could be for a number of reasons why you, or people you know, haven’t gotten a job by applying on indeed.com.
Building An Indeed Resume
Before you begin applying to jobs, its best to make sure your resume is up to date. There are two ways to add your resume to Indeed: Upload it manually or create an Indeed Resume online.
When Ive used Indeed in the past, Ive uploaded the resume that I keep updated in my Google Drive. If its been a while since youve updated your resume, check out Clarks guide to a perfect resume. The guide includes nine great tips on how to update your resume including how to make it stand out, whether or not you should include a second page and what to leave off.
Alternatively, you can enter your information online to create an Indeed Resume.
If you choose to create your resume on Indeed.com, youll enter all of the information youd expect to find on a classic resume. After your name, city and contact information, youll be able to enter your education history, work experience and skills.
Once youve filled out the form, Indeed will format the information and create an editable, searchable resume that you can use to apply for jobs. You can download it as a PDF, replace it with a different resume and choose whether or not to make your resume private.

Create A Business Email & Free Employer Account
Before creating your Indeed account, a best practice is to make a company email address. Create a specific business email address for hiring purposes so candidate emails dont fill up your personal email. Consider something like: jobs@companyname.com or careers@companyname.com.
Then, create a free employer Indeed account. You can start with a free 14-day trial of Indeed for Employers, which will give you access to Indeed Resumes, where you can search and contact up to 20 candidates.
Choose The File You Want To Upload
Next, a window will pop up for you to choose the resume file you would like to upload. Choose your file and click ‘open’ at the bottom of the file upload box. After you click ‘open’, Indeed will prompt you to enter your email address so you can create a free account. You will need to do this to gain access to Indeed’s resume editor after uploading your file so you can revise your resume to fit into Indeed’s template.

Research Companies Job Titles And Salaries
Instead of applying for a job blindly, it always helps to do some research. Indeed offers tools that allow you to learn more about specific companies, jobs and the amounts they pay. On Indeed Company Pages, you can get an idea of what its like to work at a company, read reviews and learn how much the company pays. You may also learn a fact or two about the company that you can bring up during a job interview. Using these pages for research may also help you determine if the company has a location near you, whether it offers benefits and what the interview process is like.

Reset Your Password
If you would like to reset your password, please visit the link in the upper right corner of any Indeed page.
If you accidentally created an Indeed account with a typo in your email, unfortunately, you will not be able to recover the password for the account and will need to create a new account.
Issues with Two-Step Verification
Two-Step Verification is a system Indeed uses to make your account more secure. You can link a phone number to your account, then when you log in, you will be sent a code to that phone number via call or text to complete the login process.
Indeed uses the third party provider, Authy, to manage Two-Step Verification. If you have an issue, such as a change in phone number, please submit a request on to update your phone number.
Logging Into Another Site
When clicking on a job listing on Indeed, you may be redirected to the employer website where the job is actively listed. Other sites may have their own login or registration requirements, and you will not be able to log in using your Indeed credentials.

Is My Information Safe
Most sites will allow you to choose whether you want your resume to be public. If you don’t want your resume to be viewed by just anyone, do your research to see exactly who will be able to access it.
Most sites will block out your street address along with your email and phone number which will be visible only to employers you apply or respond to.
Let’s go into more detail about uploading your resume to Indeed.
Once you upload your resume to Indeed, you will have the option of making your resume either public or private.
Remember that if you do make your resume private, it won’t be visible to potential employers. Unless you don’t want anyone to know you’re searching for a job, we suggest making it public so hiring managers could reach out to you. Also remember that your information are not shared publicly.
You shouldn’t even be including your full address on a resume in the USA–only your city, state, and zip code.
How To Upload Your Resume In 5 Steps:
Step OneRegister your account by answering the questions asked on the site. Or simply sign up with your Facebook account. If you already have an account, then sign in by entering your username and password.
Step TwoUpload your resume on the site with the recommended file formats: Word, PDF, RTF, or TXT.
Step ThreeSave your resume using any of these formats on Indeed as well as a backup on your own computer.
Step FourOnce the upload process has been completed, you can view and edit your resume anytime. You can also add sections later on if needed. For example, if youve recently just received a certification, you can update your Indeed Resume with this information.
Step FiveClick on the View Resume button before sending it to any potential employer. This enables you to proofread and check for any errors. Its important to see what the final copy of your resume will look like before employers do.
If you want to delete your resume and start from scratch, click on Remove Your Resume.

How Do I Close My Account
You as a job seeker can close your account by logging in and navigating to this page.
You will see a confirmation window. If you are certain that you would like to proceed, click OK. Please note that this is an irreversible action and cannot be undone.
Instead of closing your account, you have the option to pause your alerts. You can also set your resume to private so that your information is not searchable on Indeed.
If you wish to use Indeed again after closing your account, you can create a new account using the same or any other email address, however you will not have access to any of your original information.
If you do not see the option to close your account, submit a request to our support team for further assistance.

So, while we’ve established why the notification feature can be helpful for everyone involved, should Indeed be notifying employers about CV changes?

The answer gets a little complicated. As we’ve seen, these notifications aren’t intended for your current employer, rather potential employers for job roles you’ve applied for. Unfortunately, Indeed only sends out these notifications to current employers due to user error on the employer’s partand Indeed can’t help that.

It’s pretty clear that Indeed isn’t reporting on employees on purpose, but it can have consequences for you in your career. The onus to correctly use Indeed is certainly on employers, but perhaps both the company and Indeed can do more to prevent this accidental issue.
