Dont Focus On Uploading Your Resume To Linkedin; Focus On These 5 Key Tips

How to Use Google Drive to Upload a Resume

It is estimated that only 51% of LinkedIn users take the time to actually fill out every profile section. This means that half of LinkedIn users are failing to use the platform to its full potential. Here is what our Chief Executive Officer suggests you do to give your LinkedIn profile page a little TLC:

  • Fill out every single section option in your LinkedIn profile. If you think that you have no relevant accomplishments or activities beyond your job experiences, reevaluate the personal projects you have worked on. There are good chances that you demonstrated a valuable skill and/or relevant facet of your values that can be listed on your profile. If you still are struggling to come up with accomplishments, this is a signal that it is time to get involved with more activities that can propel your career forward.
  • Remove any buzzwords. There is a litany of overused verbs, adverbs, and nouns, and applicants not only overuse them, they fail to do the critical thinking required to make the content of their LinkedIn profile come across as unique and engaging. This tip comes straight from the LinkedIn experts. In a recent article, 10 of the most overused marketing buzzwords in resumes and LinkedIn profiles were called out. To differentiate yourself from others in your industry, you must pay attention to this.
  • Create A Resume Online

Some job search engines allow you to create a resume using their own resume builders. These walk you through the process of creating your resume, section by section, and format it. For example, job seekers who use Indeed can create a resume online in a variety of formats including Word, PDF, RTF, TXT, and HTML.

Once you have created a resume using a job search engine resume builder, the site will allow you to share it with employers on the same job search engine. When you apply for jobs on the site, you only need to click on your saved resume.

Make sure you download a version of the resume you create online. This way, you will have a version on your computer you can use and edit even when you are not online. You then can email and print your resume to share it with employers and networking contacts at any time.

Should I Upload My Resume To Linkedin

Before uploading your resume to LinkedIn, you should think about what kind of impact that could have on your job search and your privacy.

While it is an option, uploading your resume to your profile may not be the best decision and you should think carefully before you do.

Your LinkedIn profile is a public space all of your connections will have access to that information. But the information posted on LinkedIn versus your usual resume has one huge difference: contact information.

On your resume, you may have your address, phone number, and other personal information. Do you want that readily accessible to anyone who is a connection of yours on LinkedIn?

For many profiles, if someone has your profile link, they can read everything posted on your profile. Dont make it easy for your identity to get stolen.

If you upload your resume to your profile, you might come across as desperately looking for a job, which just fuels the question, if they are such a good candidate, why are they so desperate?

Your resume should be specific for each job, tweaked to perfection so that recruiters know you are specifically qualified for that particular position. If you put it on your profile, then you dont allow room for tailoring the resume to job applications.

In other words, it can appear lazy to upload your resume to LinkedIn, especially if you do this instead of building a LinkedIn profile.

A Sample Resume Made for Job Application

Your LinkedIn can be a more comprehensive version of your work history, but your resume should still be tailored to your career goals. While a keyword-optimized profile can help a recruiter or hiring manager find you on LinkedIn, most hiring professionals still want to see a resume before bringing you in for an interview.

LinkedIn once offered a summary section that could support resume uploads, followed by an About section. The About section remains, but no longer supports added media. The latest option for displaying your resume on your LinkedIn is by adding it to the new Featured section of your LinkedIn profile.

Here’s how you can upload your resume to your LinkedIn in 2021.

    Upload A Resume Online

You may need to upload your resume online for a variety of reasons during your job search, and each reason might require a slightly different strategy for uploading the document.

If you do not create a resume using an online site’s resume builder but still want to post it to the site, you will have to upload it. Some sites will include a text box where you simply can copy and paste your resume or type it in directly. If you do this, make sure that the format of your resume stays the same. You may have to edit your resume within the text box to make sure it still looks professional.

However, some job sites dont let you play with the formatting of the text in the text box. In that case, dont worry about what it looks like, because it will be consistent with the other resumes in the database.

If you do not paste your resume, you will have to upload it. Typically, you will see a button that says Upload or Upload Resume. Click this button, and then click through your computer folders and files to find your resume, wherever you have it saved on your computer.

Sites typically will list the file formats they accept, so be sure your resume is saved in one of those formats before uploading.

Here are some of the sites where you can upload your resume or a candidate profile to help broaden your exposure to hiring managers and recruiters.

    Create A Resume Website

Another type of online resume is one that is made and accessed only online and typically has its own URL. It could be a standalone site or a component of your personal website.

This kind of online resume allows you to include images and even interactive infographics. You can embed links to other sites related to your work, such as your LinkedIn account, a website you developed, or an article you published. You also can include your work on multiple pages, creating a portfolio of your work.

Depending on your industry and the type of job you are interested, an online resume can be a great way to highlight your skills and experience in a manner that is more visually appealing and engaging than a traditional resume. It also can show off your skills in web development or design, if these skills are relevant to your field.

However, keep in mind that many employers prefer more traditional resumes that are submitted as Word documents, PDFs, or other more typical formats. Be sure to only create an online resume if you know the employer would appreciate this and if you think it shows your relevant skills.

Make Sure Your Resume Is In The Correct Format

    How to upload your resume

The website you upload to might change the organization of your resume if you do not submit your resume in the correct format. Select the resume format that the employer asks for. If they do not specify, choose the format that works best with your resume to ensure the formatting such as font, bullet points or margins don’t change. Uploading your resume in the right format helps maintain the readability of your resume for hiring managers and recruiters.

How To Upload Your Resume To Linkedin

There are two ways to upload your resume to LinkedIn: add your resume as Featured Media or upload your resume as you apply for a job using LinkedIns Easy Apply feature.

Well cover the Featured Media method first, although we find it less useful than using Easy Apply.

    Heres a step-by-step guide:

  • Go to your LinkedIn profile

  • Press Add Profile Section

  • Select Featured and then Media from the drop-down menu

  • Select your resume document from wherever it is located on your computer

  • As we said earlier, we dont recommend posting your resume to your LinkedIn profile like this. Sure, you can change your privacy settings so random people wont see this stuff, but recruiters and hiring managers who might be interested in you later are just random people right now.

On top of that, you can list your work experience elsewhere on your LinkedIn profile. The picture of your resume is basically unnecessary and will do more harm than good as a job seeker. Recruiters wont notice an uploaded photo nearly as much as a regularly updated work history section on your LinkedIn profile.

Method two of uploading your resume to LinkedIn involves using the Easy Apply feature.

Heres a step-by-step guide for that process:

  • Press the Jobs button at the top of the page

  • Look for a job with the Easy Apply tag on the bottom

  • Select that job and then press the Easy Apply button below the job title

  • Fill out your contact information and press Next

  • How Do I Apply

To start, search for a job of interest. You can search by locations, business categories, job categories or keywords. Once you find one, click the “Apply Now” button next to the title of the role at the top of the page.

Then, follow the directions on your screen. Either create a new profile, or log back in if you’re a returning candidate.

If you are interested in a warehouse/associate position in an Amazon Fulfillment Center, learn more about the application process here.

A Word On Resume Distribution Services
