    Showcase Your Education And Training

Your education section includes the name of your degrees, the institution where you studied, its location and your graduation dates.

Medical assistants technically only need a high school diploma and learn through on-the-job training. If this is your case, make sure you leave out your graduation date to prevent hiring bias because of your age.

Since some states require medical assistants to become certified, you can include an added section called Certifications where you include any training or certificates.

Look at this example of an education section for a medical assistantâs resume:

    Lanier Technical College, Gainesville, GA

Associate of Applied Science: Medical Assisting

    Resume Tips For Medical Assistants

A college degree is not a requirement to become a Medical Assistant. Most companies would accept a high school diploma, a GED score or certification attesting to your completion of a medical assistant course.

Thus having a college or associate degree especially in a related field will play to your advantage. In our Medical Assistant resume examples, we placed great emphasis on educational attainment plus other trainings and certifications that were received to prepare for a career as a Medical Assistant.

You will also notice that the work experience is written using the reverse- chronology format which means starting with the latest or current employment then working back. You dont have to include work experience that is not related to the job post. These types of entries may only serve to distract the Hiring Manager.

Be as detailed as possible in your description of responsibilities. Companies are looking for talent with varied skill sets. A Medical Assistant may be required to handle administrative, clerical or clinical tasks. The more diverse skill sets you exhibit the greater becomes your value to the employer.

Writing A Cover Letter For A Patient Care Assistant Resume

Only a sloppy application will forget the cover letter. Who wants a hiring manager to think that?

Your medical assistant cover letter needs to target the requirements in the job listing.

    Weâve got an example here:

I am writing to apply for the role of medical assistant at Trinity Care. I am an AAMA certified medical assistant and certified phlebotomist. In the last 7 years, Iâve assisted an endocrinologist at Smith Medical, completing over 2,000 blood draws in 5 years. Tasked with introducing an online appointment system, I assessed 3 and chose Acuity Setting, with 26% patient uptake in 12 months. Rolled out a training program to other MAs to improve EHR keeping, with an increase in patient satisfaction from 93 to 97% over two years. I am keen to take my skills and enthusiasm to a new setting and work on process and delivery improvement at Smith, working with your oncology team.

That paragraph refers to the specific role theyâre seeking, gives plenty of numbers, and shows how motivated they are.

Describe Your Work Experience As A Medical Assistant

The next step to drafting your resume is to list your work experience. This includes the name of your position , the name of the location at which you worked, and the length of time in which you worked.

Furthermore, write your resume experience in a way that anyone in your industry will understand. Don’t use company-specific language.

For example, letâs say you worked at a place that called Electronic Health Records âcomputer filesâ. Not everyone is going to know what this means, and it sounds rather vague, so itâs best to stick with the common name, otherwise a hiring manager may not know what youâre talking about — and if the manager is confused, theyâre more likely to throw out your resume and move onto the next.

You should also quantify your resume whenever possible. This means adding a number — such as a dollar amount or percentage — to your accomplishments. Quantifying your resume gives the hiring manager a more concrete idea of your workplace performance. For example, say that you âoversaww 5 employees,â âimproved patient satisfaction by 20%,â or âlowered monthly overhead by $30,000.â

Tip: One way to quantify your resume is by listing your accomplishments and awards.
