Portfolio Or Personal Website

Creative professionals like photographers, writers, and web, UI, and UX designers sometimes find it hard to include metrics on their resumes since there is not always a quantifiable impact.

For those whose work needs to speak for itself, linking to a creative portfolio or personal website in the resume header is a great alternative. A creative portfolio can give an employer a tangible sense of your capabilities, while a personal website is an opportunity for you to build a strong personal brand.

While writing resumes for Lets Eat, Grandma, I saw how portfolios and websites were a particularly powerful tool for professionals such as advertising copywriters and graphic designers.

I also worked with a theme park engineer who worked with the biggest companies in his industry. Reading about his experience was impressive, but seeing images of his work left an unforgettable visual impact.

How To Build A Compelling Resume When You Function In A Support Role

Dear Sam: I am relatively entry-level in my career, having just four years and two positions in the administrative arena. When I look at my friends resumes, they talk about their significant accomplishments. For instance, one friend works in pharmaceutical sales, and his resume talks about products he has launched, contests he has won, and quantifiers of his successes. Another friend is in environmental health and safety, and on her resume she talks about processes she has developed, new programs she has implemented, and reductions in incidents and accidents in her workplace. My job is to support others in achieving their goals, so how do I shine a light on my accomplishments when I dont have any? Surely people in support roles can have strong resumes too! – Abigail

Dear Abigail: First of all, I am confident it is not true that you have no accomplishments! I have worked with countless administrative professionals, and we have plenty to highlight in ways they have added value. Just because your field is different from your friends certainly doesnt mean there arent highly impactful and effective ways to talk about your journey in a positive and promotional way.

Adding Your Resume To Linkedin

LINK Resume

If you don’t have a resume ready, you could use , which takes all of the information you’ve included on your profile and converts it into a PDF resume.

However, that downloaded resume is likely not as aesthetically pleasing as a resume you created yourself, and it will likely be longer than you want. So uploading a customized resume to your profile lets you tailor your employment information to better fit the job you’re applying for so you’ll stand out in the right ways. Create A Resume Website

Another type of online resume is one that is made and accessed only online and typically has its own URL. It could be a standalone site or a component of your personal website.

This kind of online resume allows you to include images and even interactive infographics. You can embed links to other sites related to your work, such as your LinkedIn account, a website you developed, or an article you published. You also can include your work on multiple pages, creating a portfolio of your work.

Depending on your industry and the type of job you are interested, an online resume can be a great way to highlight your skills and experience in a manner that is more visually appealing and engaging than a traditional resume. It also can show off your skills in web development or design, if these skills are relevant to your field.

However, keep in mind that many employers prefer more traditional resumes that are submitted as Word documents, PDFs, or other more typical formats. Be sure to only create an online resume if you know the employer would appreciate this and if you think it shows your relevant skills.

Should You Include Your Linkedin Url On Your Resume

In the vast majority of cases, including your LinkedIn URL on your resume is a good idea. Most employers will look you up on LinkedIn anyways, so making their lives a little easier by including the link will reflect positively on you.

Many employers may not even consider you for an interview at all if you dont have a LinkedIn profile or they cant find it. So, creating an attractive LinkedIn profile and including the link in your resume can increase your chances of getting interviewed, and, ultimately, hired.

Plus, unlike your resume, your LinkedIn profile isnt limited to a single page, so you have much more room to highlight all of your work experience, accomplishments, and skills. The platform even allows you to provide social proof of your qualifications through endorsements and recommendations.

You can also include more details about each of your past jobs as well as other information to help potential employers get an idea of who you are as a person. For instance, you can add your volunteer experience, interests, hobbies, and other details that wont necessarily fit on your resume.

Additionally, you can include examples of your work to your LinkedIn profile, including writing or design samples, slide decks or spreadsheets that youve created, links to websites that you have built, and so forth. Of course, only include information that isnt proprietary to any of your former employers.

What To Put On Github For Resume

How can I create a URL for my Resume so I can share it through email and other online channels?

Including GitHub on your resume can add weightage to your chances of being shortlisted by recruiters during a job application.

One very important thing you need to be very clear about while listing GitHub on resume is to ensure that your profile is maintained well and contains notable projects.

Also, it needs to be an active profile.

If your profile is stagnant with no record of your involvement in relevant projects or activities it may backfire. So always ensure that you have something worthy that the recruiters can take away from your GitHub profile.

It can be complicated for recruiters to identify your technical skills and problem-solving skills just through a resume so adding GitHub on resume is a good call.

Taking everything into account, your projects on GitHub should demonstrate your software-developing skills so you can introduce yourself as the best candidate for the technical job profile that you are applying for.
