How To Upload Your Resume
If you already have a resume saved on your device, click on the “Upload Resume” button and select the file you would like to upload. This will automatically populate the text fields with your information. Indeed creates your resume using a standardized format that allows you to easily apply to job postings using our platform. When you initially upload your resume, its visibility will be set to public. To change your resume visibility settings feel free to read our Visibility Settings article.
When uploading your resume, make sure that the file is text-based. We recommend uploading a file type that is either a Word document , a PDF created from a text file , or a plain .txt, .rtf, .html, or .odt file. Also, be sure that your file is no greater than 5 MB in size.
Send The Resume File To Your Phone
From your desktop or laptop computer, navigate to the cloud or file sharing service you’re using. Select the option to add a new file. Search for the correct resume file and select it. Depending on the service, you may need to confirm your choice to start the upload.
Another option is to save the file from your email account directly to a cloud service. Your email provider may provide links on attachments in your inbox to add or save them to your preferred cloud service.

Send Your Resume In An Email
Generally, if you are submitting your application via email, your email message will include your cover letter or at least a brief explanation for why you are writing. Then, you will attach your resume to the email:

If the employer has requested that attachments be in a certain file format, be sure to upload your resume in that format.

Unfortunately, we can’t assume that all companies will have the latest version of microsoft office, so we limit the file type to pdf or doc files. How Do I Upload A New Document
1. Click on your account icon in the upper-right corner of Handshake, then click on Documents.
2. If you haven’t uploaded a document before, you can drag and drop your file to the screen, or click the blue Select from Computer button toward the middle-bottom of the page, then choose the file on your computer.
If you’ve already uploaded at least one document, you can click on the blue button Add New Document, located in both the upper-right corner and lower-right corner of the page.
3. In the popup that appears, a preview of your document’s will load. Take the following steps:
- Review the Document Name text field – it defaults to the file name on your computer, but you can make changes as desired.
- Tip: If you’re uploading a resume for a specific application, include the company name in the Document Name for future reference!

How To Attach A Resume To An Online Job Application
Today, many employers use online job applications as a way for job applicants to submit their information and a resume. Employers often use automated systems to scan resumes and electronic application information to screen the good candidates from the bad. While uploading or copying and pasting your resume online is relatively easy, making sure the format stays in a readable format can take a little effort.

The only device you have is your phone. In a situation like this, wouldnt it be advantageous if your résumé is stored on your phone? But, alas, it isnt. Opportunity squandered.
This situation isnt hard to imagine. I present it to my Résumé Advanced workshop and ask them, Do you have your résumé on your phone? Im lucky if four out of 20 raise their hand. The others register on their face that Ah ha moment.
A circumstance like the one above prompted me to write a long post called, Is your résumé stored on your phone? My LinkedIn connection, Tiffany Appleton share it with her network, increasing the number of reactions of my original post to more than 5,000. Its still got legs.
