As an online marketer, I use keyword research all the time. As a job seeker, you need to know how this process works in principle, to fully understand why you need to spend time on it.
RECRUITERS SEARCH FOR KEYWORDS. When a recruiter searches , Indeed, Monster.com or any of the other career oriented networks/portals, or even their own applicant tracking system, your resume is scanned for very specific keywords which come from the job description that you’re being considered for. This is similar to how many forms of online marketing works in principle. It all comes down to matching keywords with searches very often.
HOW CAN I USE THIS TO MY ADVANTAGE?Use the exact keywords and keyphrases from the job description in your resume. Its that simple. Copy them from the job description, and paste them into your resume, and write words around them to make them fit there. Make sure it all fits together well. Then bold this stuff. All the bold phrases and words in my resume relate to exact phrases or bullet points from job descriptions that I was targeting.
The Resume Is Your First Impression Over The Recruiter:
First impression is the last impression, and before going to an interview, it is your resume that speaks about yourself.
So, if it is going to be filled with good things, only then it will help in generating your positive image in front of recruiters. If your resume is itself not unique then it will not be able to bring positive gains to you both during and after the interview.
Create An Earlier Work History Section For A Senior
If you have 20+ years of experience or changed jobs frequently at the beginning of your career, you may need more than a one-liner to cover the work experience. An alternative is to add an Earlier Career History section at the bottom of your professional experience that lists the job title, company name, and location of each role.

In most cases, recruiters may take only 15 to 20 seconds to go through your resume. So, in such situation if you have a lengthy resume then your chances of getting interviewed and then hired are reduced to a great extent.

A too long resume seems not only unattractive, but also boring to read. Sure, recruiters dont have enough time to go through the entire story that you have presented in the form of a lengthy resume.

Resumes are dynamic documents that highlight an individuals most relevant experiences and accomplishments related to a job description. In addition to standard resume sections like education, skills and experiences, class projects is a section that can be included to showcase additional qualifications that are relevant to jobs in which you have interest in applying to.
When should you add a Class Projects section?
Every statement on your resume should add value and relate back to the job opening. With only one page , every line counts, so you need to make sure that it is highlighting something that the employer is looking for in an ideal candidate.

First, a longer resume allows you to craft a resume that will successfully make it through the Applicant Tracking System . ATS are used by the vast majority of companies. They are designed to choose only those that most closely match the job description and weed out the rest.
Your resume will only be seen by a human if it successfully makes it through the ATS scan. As a result, part of your goal needs to be ensuring that your resume meets ATS requirements.
What are those requirements? First, the ATS scans to ensure that resumes match the keywords in the job description. You must match the keywords to make it through successfully.
Second, they also scan for the frequency of keywords. As a result, successful applicants need to ensure both the existence of keywords and sufficient frequency throughout the resume. Frankly, ensuring keyword frequency without monotony may be hard to do without two pages.
When Is It Not Acceptable
From an entry-level candidate to a professional with less than 20 years of experience, a 3-page resume is neither necessary or wanted.

But if you feel compelled to fill that space, be strategic and make sure the information is relevant. If you havent already done so, add information on your leadership, organizations, volunteer work, hobbies, or sports activities. This will show employers you have a life outside of work and give some insight into your personality.
Also keep in mind that this information doesnt have to be in text format. Ive seen some great resumes recently that have outlined these items using pie charts, timelines, and graphs. Just remember these fancy formats dont always translate well when applying online and can wind up a jumbled mass of code.
So, whats the moral of the resume length debate? In the digital application world, size doesnt really matter. As long as you tell a compelling story about your employment history thats easy on the eyes, your page breaks will be forgiven.
